Empowering Returning Citizens to Build Careers with Food

Food Careers

Our mission empowers disadvantaged job seekers to find their path to self-sufficiency and fulfillment through work feeding our community. We believe in opportunity, good food, and the transformative power of meaningful work.

Based in the Bay Area, we focus on raising awareness of programs that facilitate pathways to food careers, and connecting high road employers with nonprofit services to strengthen the good food movement.

We’re connecting people to food-related career training and opportunities and growing a community dedicated to great food and better workplaces.

This spring, the team conducted interviews with change makers providing training and support to help disadvantaged people build successful careers in San Jose and around the country. We’ve identified key elements of successful culinary education and job readiness programs, built a great network of partners and advisers, and discussed how we can best support existing service networks.

This June, we partnered with superstars in reentry services, job readiness, culinary training, second chance employment and high road restaurant operations to host a workshop on successful second chance employment in the food industry. Learn about our speakers and watch the event recap video here!

Following the event, we evaluated our resources and how we might maximize our capacity to connect job seekers to careers in food and decided to focus on building awareness and community by supporting networking and visibility of training programs and high road employers.
